Excellent work on the "problem of evil" in religion. For serious intellectual philosophical thinkers only. Whether you ultimately agree or disagree with Augustine's premise, you will certainly appreciate the depth in which he addresses an issue that the world's most prolific religions readily ignore.God is all, knows all, and created all; and God can and does only create good; so why is there bad/wickedness/evil? To understand this, one must understand choice and will, which Augustine elaborates on. What I took from this is that the use of the will to choose to do something, say something, etc. that hurts another in ANY way is counter to God's divine plan and is therefore evil. Anything, or anyone is good and can be USED for an evil end. So it is not necessarily that the person is evil, but that the result of a choice is evil. That is sin and this is also why people can be forgiven and work towards not sinning, using their will, by the grace of God, to choose to do right.

The 6th Ecumenical Council says St. Augustine is a father of the Church. His theology marks a trend away from the authoritative Greek fathers but he can never be ignored or discounted. Amazingly worth reading. Timely delivery!

These concepts have immediately been helpful to us and I have already reviewed sections again throughout the day when applicable.Their guidance has been helpful in many ways. One example is in teaching my dog how to relax by herself and not need constant human attention. I was allowing her on the couch whenever she wanted, where she would bark or paw for my attention. I started teaching her to not get on the couch unless invited, and although the puppy dog looks kill at first(!), she seems more content and calm. She will instead lay at my feet and rest. This is just one example from me, and it may be imperfect, but I wanted to share to explain that this book has helped immediately!Thank you to the writers!

Highly recommend this book. We have owned dogs throughout our lives, but recently adopted a one year old dog from a shelter with behavioral issues. This book offered practical solutions for establishing your position as pack leader. While we still need to train our youngster to obey more commands, he has become balanced after 2 1/2 weeks, and acknowledges that the humans are the pack leaders in the home. We applied guidance from this book along with the Cesar Milan technique of exercise; rules, boundaries, and limitations; and affection in that order. One of the trainers, Marc Goldberg, offers practical advice for dealing with specific canine behaviors. This is one of the best dog training books I have read.

I have been buying dog books since the day I brought home my own lovely pup 8 years ago. I tried to raise the poor thing as a cat, but that's a whole different story I'm too embarrassed to tell. I really enjoy dog books and this one has been no exception. In fact, I got half way through it and decided it was a perfect book for my friend to read as well. We had been discussing during a visit that dogs just don't seem to be the dogs we knew as children. Our expectations of them had become a little far fetched and they just weren't allowed to do what they need to do, or rather just be dogs. That's why the title of this book grabbed my attention right away. The writing is personable, personal, and engaging. I am currently on my second read of it hoping to absorb even more guidance the second time around.
