I was prompted to pick up The Four Agreements and this one from my bookshelf just prior to heading out to Utah for The Reset Experience and the timing couldn’t have been more apropos.Although the title reads The Seven Spiritual Laws of “Success,” it could also read a The Seven Spiritual Laws of “Life.”At 111 pages, you have just around an hour to invest, but it’s worth every single minute.Often times, the simplest and most concise messages are the ones that resonate with me the most, perhaps because of my monkey brain and the tendency for it to wander! We have Seven Laws as follows;• The Law of Pure Potentiality —>This law is about pure consciousness, something I didn’t fully grasp until AFTER The Reset Experience. More on this later.• The Law of Giving —> This revolves around “intention” and it should be giving and receiving that is unconditional and from the heart.• The Law of “Karma” or Cause and Effect —> I believe we all understand this one!• The Law of Least Effort —> Follow the path of no resistance. When you work in your Zone of GENIUS and find FLOW, everything becomes effortless.• The Law of Intention and Desire —> When you place your attention on your intention, you will attain the desired outcome.• The Law of Detachment —> A lack of knowing the TRUE “Self” creates attachments based on fear and insecurities. Let go of expectations and attachments to outcomes.• The Law of “Dharma” or Purpose in Life —> This one really struck home. I took a picture of a page on the plane that I shall never forget. It’ll be the first comment below. This book is simple, yet extraordinarily profound. If you’re able to discern the messages in this book AND apply the concepts, I guarantee you’ll find a better YOU and powerful way to live!Amazon gives 4.7 stars after 1,204 reviews. Goodreads gives 4.08 stars after 43,967 ratings and 987 reviews. This one gets my seldom offered up 5-Star rating and it’s one I will read again and again should I ever need a reminder.Much Love! ❤️🙏🏻#FridaysFind #MIAGD #DeepakChopra #TheSevenSpiritualLawsOfSuccess #WeAreCreators #Karma #Dharma #UnconditionalLOVE #PurePotentiality #Consciousness

Life changing book. Write the days of the week on each chapter. Every day, re-read one of the very short chapters when you wake up. Pretty soon it will alter your worldview, make you a better person, keeps you focused and on track. Alongside transcendental meditation and your life will change for the better. Trust me. No therapy required. :)

Insightful and practical guidebook on aligning your consciousness, your being to the energy of the Universe, so that you can effortlessly release your wish to the Universe, and learn to let go of expectations, and let the Universe make things happen when the time is perfect. The practice of not judging anything for the day, and the practice of silence are particularly useful to me. Thank you!

This was a good read for me. Quite eye opening...At the time I was going through a transformation in my life. Jaded by Dogmatic religions and feeling like Frederich Nietche this gave me a new sort of approach to bettering myself mentally physically as well as spiritually . I now know how to heal my body mind and spirit and keep myself on a better path. Truly inspirational book... made me begin researching a lot of holistic medicine, get away from prescription drugs. Distancing myself from toxic people and situations. And even meditating or simply taking a 10 minute rest from the rat-race really does amazing things. (slight personal digression there ;) Deepak goes at life from every conceivable angle (Sciences of Psychology and Medicine as well as spirituality {more so than typical religious dogma} Keep an open mind when you read this one and you can get a lot from it.

Like most of us, I've seen Mr. Chopra on CNN. He's well spoken for sure, but I wasn't particularly interested in reading any of his books. Then I attended my first Science & Nonduality conference and witnessed Mr. Chopra deliver a knockout talk in 16 minutes.I searched online for the books he's written and I found this one: THE SEVEN SPIRITUAL LAWS OF SUCCESS. Integrating success with spirituality is a subject I'm very much interested in, so I got this book and read it in a matter of days. From all the 7 laws outlined in the book, The Law of Giving resonated the most. This chapter alone made the entire book a worthwhile read.I also found the Law of Pure Potentiality very interested. The remaining 5 laws were also intriguing, but not all of it worked for me.Each chapter has steps to follow, but I feel Mr. Chopra sometimes goes to extremes by suggesting these steps be practiced all the time. I recommend starting with baby steps and moving on from there. That way, expectations can be met with less of a chance for disappointment.I highlighted many passages through this book. There are precious gems everywhere.THE SEVEN SPIRITUAL LAWS OF SUCCESS is a quick and easy read and I recommend it to anyone interested in more from life than just material success.

Its disguised as a diet book, but in reality its a book about self "fufillment". Like I'm sure so many people in the world do, when they get stressed, they turn to food. This book opened my eyes to the habits that probably 90% of people do. Instead of eating to fufill a need, because we're bored, angry, tired, or depressed, Deepak tells you to take a step back, take a deep breath and do some soul searching "what do I really want with my life?" .Don't get me wrong there's plenty of diet advice.... Deepak gets you to be aware of what you eat, and that you're allowed to eat crappy food every once in a while. Cold turkey NEVER works when dieting, it only leads to crash and burn.Overall amazing book and made me buy some of his other work.

Interesting so far!

Jane Burnett Smith's "Hobbled Stirrups" exceeded my expectations. This book is a fast-paced, yet indepth portrayal of life behind the scenes in American rodeo. Smith tells all without bitterness (although her experiences could easily have made her a bitter woman) and with the blunt humor of someone who has learned to let the hard times roll off her shoulders. To date, no other rodeo performer, cowgirl or cowboy, has written such an honest account of the sport as "Hobbled Stirrups." This is the type of book I find myself rereading to better absorb the experience.

The Secret Rooms: A True Story of a Haunted Castle, a Plotting Duchess, and a Family Secret, by Catherine Bailey

From Booklist

While researching a book on WWI, historian Bailey stumbled on a crackerjack real-life mystery revolving around the life and times of John Henry Montagu Manners, the ninth Duke of Rutland. A meticulous curator who organized his illustrious family’s documents and correspondence, he died in the archives suite of Belvoir Castle in 1940, refusing medical treatment until he completely expunged all records pertaining to three distinct yet interrelated periods in his life. As Bailey painstakingly unearths secret after secret in order to deduce what really happened between the years 1894 to 1915, the ghosts of scandals past surface in full force. Populated with a bevy of real-life aristos who played by their own twisted and privileged set of rules, a searing portrait of family intrigue, dysfunction, and hubris—à la Downton Abbey—emerges. --Margaret Flanagan

“In pages more reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe than Evelyn Waugh… [Bailey] reminds us why this seemingly insignificant story bears telling.” – The New York Times Book Review“With gripping detail and graceful prose…Bailey’s work can best be described as a work of probative history written with the storytelling skills of a latter-day Agatha Christie.” – The Richmond Times-Dispatch “Populated with a bevy of real-life aristos who played by their own twisted and privileged set of rules, a searing portrait of family intrigue, dysfunction, and hubris—a la Downton Abbey—emerges.” – Booklist “Bailey is a truly dogged detective… a compelling exposé” – Kirkus Reviews  “Bailey deserves commendation for her meticulous research as well as her storytelling.” – Publisher’s Weekly “Gripping. Reads like the best kind of mystery story. It is a tale of mistresses and heirlooms, cowardice and connivance.” – The Sunday Times (London)“Compelling. A remarkable piece of research which throws a bright shaft of light on powerful people, hypocrisy and the First World War.” – The Guardian

The author had me until she felt the need to dazzle me with her research skills by forcing down my throat unnecessary letters and information that wasted my time. She had me in her hand for the first half of the book. I was intrigued. I was mesmerized with the story she was telling and her talent as a historical researcher. But then she lost me. I think she let her interest in World War I get the best of her. The first half of this book is excellent. But then it just gets lost and so completely bogged down with unnecessary letters and tributaries that the reader can't remember what happened in the first half. I blame the publisher's editor for not informing this author that this book should have been cut down to 1/3 of its size. Worse, after the author tortures us with unnecessary, unrelated details about nothing in the second half of the book, she fails to go back at the end and tie it all together. Like, how about just one page that reminds us about what the final verdict was about the three missing periods in Duke's life he sought to cover up. But, no we get none of that. Had the publisher's editor insisted on cutting out all the wasted trivia about nothing, this book could have been good. Oh, and those hauntings? Try a half a page and that's it...just about one single staircase that one person says she was pushed down by someone who wasn't there and some dogs that wouldn't go down it. That's it. In the end, don't bother with this one.

I mistakenly expected this book to be about the subject matter of the author's research--as opposed to " THE STORY of how Catherine Bailey set out to do some research for a book which ended up taking a completely different direction ". Admittedly, the fault may be my own but in fairness to me, the jacket does paint a different picture. Clearly printed on the cover is "A true story of a haunted castle, a plotting duchess, and a family secret."The opening lines of the book vividly set the scene for an intriguing mystery surrounding the death of the 9th Duke of Rutland, and then the author veers off course. This book reads like a BBC documentary (To paraphrase : "The Duchess suggested I see the crypt, but first I went to the library to view the land records. It was a drizzly afternoon and the lighting was poor" type thing. ).Conservatively, 30% of this book is spent needlessly manufacturing drama and an additional 20% is spent detailing all manner of needless commentary through which the reader must plod to get to the bones of the story. And make no mistake, there IS a compelling story to be told. Had the author constrained her focus to the actual story and wholly ignored the minutiae of her research process, I would be more excited about this book. If you can tolerate the superfluous and extraneous blather that makes up half of this book, you will find an interesting glimpse into the lives of several generations of a privileged family of nobility. You will also learn some interesting historical perspective concerning the decline of prestige and fortunes within peerage and how the influx of billions of American dollars by way of marriages served to buttress the system.

To begin with, I feel the title is misleading which no doubt contributes to disappointment/confusion. The end result is a sad tale of wasted potential; sad in that it deals with rather purposeless, self-centered people who inherited privilege which seemed not to have given them depth or compassion. The exception would be Lady Diana Manners who did become a nurse, working very hard to do her patriotic duty when the times certainly did not encourage young aristocratic women to do such. As a researcher/writer, I would be in pure heaven if given the opportunity Ms. Bailey was by the current Duke of Rutland; I would be literally beside myself with glee if I could comb through all those private correspondences and war records. Thank goodness people once wrote copious letters and kept them all for how else would we have a personal take on history? However, if one is not inclined toward this, the very premise of the author’s work to uncover the “mysteries” could become tedious. There is repetition and the author's habit of Italics for emphasis which I found distracting in that I am able to decipher on my own when a moment is pertinent. As for the Downton Abbey tie in, this is not a fictional drama or a novel but it does offer insight on how the household of a ducal system operated and good descriptions of the castle and the land. I found the photographs especially enlightening. If one is a history buff as I am, the significance of Belvoir Castle remaining in the hands of the same family and their ability to trace their ancestry to the man who carried the banner for William the Conqueror compelling. Having an interest in World War One and the details of the horror of life in the trenches would go a long way toward finding this a good read.

When reading a synopsis of the story, it sounded it would be something I'd love. It sounded like it had it all- a castle, haunted no less, and an old family with secrets, etc, lots of intrigue. Even with a rather slow start I thought it would pick up a little and get on with it. But the way the story plodded over details and descriptions, it became so bogged down I lost interest. The story is true, but that didn't keep it from being boring. There were no ghosts, the castle sounded like it needed a good cleaning, and the people who lived there didn't capture my interest, not even John, the man with the secret. If this had been fiction, and the author could have worked things out at her will, and had left out some of the mind-numbing details, it would have made a good read. And BTW-- why is every book now being compared to "Downton Abby?" Just because it's set in England with a rich family and a big house? I wish that would stop. This book is nothing like "Downton Abby." I read the last couple of chapters to find out the secret, and it was not worth getting to. So I did the right thing by skipping large parts. Thank goodness.

A wonderfully engaging and thoughtful treatment of a topic that one simply ought not to be ignorant of.―Duncan Pritchard, Professor of Philosophy, University of Edinburgh; author of Epistemic Angst: Radical Skepticism and the Groundlessness of Our BelievingWhat do we need to know? What are our epistemic obligations as philosophers and as citizens? In this important book, Dan DeNicola charts varieties of ignorance―culpable ignorance, circumstantial ignorance, politically engineered ignorance, etc.―and explores their sources, consequences, and ethical import. [A] lively, wide-ranging, yet systematic study of the inter-relationships between knowledge and ignorance and the agents involved with both."―Choice

This book has the potential of taking a sense of puzzlement about our society out of mind. I suggest a quiet, shady porch on a sunny Sunday afternoon accompanied by a nice bottle of red wine. It will answer questions you would scarcely think to ask - mindset changing in the best way.

difficult reading...very intellectual. But worth it

Understanding ignorance at least to the level of care it really requires opens the door for better knowledge. This book took me beyond knowns, suspected knowns, suspected unknowns and unknown unknowns into the domain of human biases. Its a good steady read.

This is an excellent book for serious study; however, it is pretty dry otherwise. I think it is a good reference book.
