The Japanese designs taken from various sources over several centuries are lovely. They will be a pleasure to color!!!

For the price this book is a great deal for beginners who want to give it a try before spending more money. The book contains black and white designs that are both intricate and less intricate ones that take less concentration and time. So far I have colored two pages of the lesser designs to get used to the colored pencils. Coloring for me is a great way to relieve stress and I can take it with me because it is not bulky or heavy. I'm looking forward to coloring more of the detailed patterns. Half the fun is deciding on what colors to use. Mistakes? No problem. It is not going into an art gallery! :)

This book wasn't great, but okay. The pictures look like fun and would be good for a less advanced colorist. Two things I didn't like about the book. 1) The pages are on thinner paper and double sided, which means you'll only be able to use colored pencils....pens and markers will completely bleed through and ruin the picture on the other side. 2) Many of the pictures had too many areas pre-filled in black. I like it when they leave more for the colorist to use their imagination. If you don't mind the above 2 reasons why I didn't it, then it would be a good book for you.

Good if you must have some Japanese designs but the paper won't take markers or many layers of colored pensicl like thicker paper will (if you layer colored pencils you can make more vivid colors and different shades of color.) The pictures are on both sides of the page- markers will bleed through and the line work isn't as intricate as an adult would want- so loss of two stars.

This item arrived in a timely manner with adequate packaging.Coloring is a great pastime for taking away your stress and reverting you back to your childhood. These Dover Design Coloring Books are great for that purpose. The pages are wonderfully drawn and makes coloring a very happy experience. The content is more mature that of your standard kid's coloring book which makes them fun to use. Children can also use them so you can enjoy this activity together. A very inexpensive form of entertainment everyone can enjoy. I highly recommend these books to bring back the kid in you!

I have admitted before and will again: I'm an adult, but I still love to color, possibly because I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler! I do like adult coloring books, though, and not ones aimed at children. This has beautiful and often intricate Japanese designs, most of them historic, and also provides an idea of the colors that would have been used with the originals (I like that, as I'd like them to look like they would have looked, although of course I could use any colors I wanted). This is not just enjoyable, it's also a lesson in historic fashion, and I enjoy learning that too.

My favorite book! Gorgeous designs! I've attached a few images.The only negative is that is printed on both sides and rubs off onto the other page. You have to use a page separator that's thicker. I ended up tearing the back cover off and using it. (I use colored pencils.)

not a lot of pages, but it does have some nice pictures. If the average adult coloring books with the tiny spaces to color makes your eyes go cross (like it does mine after a bit) this is perfect. There isn't a lot of the tiny spaces that need to be filled in. If it had more pages, I would have given it more stars.

The pictures were back to back. I use markers to color with, and I have to choose which picture on one page (both sides) I want to color, because the prints are on both side. Beautiful designs, but extremely disappointing.

This is a difficult book to review.The fundamental positive is that this book just might save you several hundred dollars (or more!) by keeping you from falling into a phony, TPG overgrading trap. The ANA's standards clearly are stated, and anyone determined to enter the rare-coin market absolutely needs to learn them.The bad news is that there is a lot of rote in this book -- what is said about Liberty quarter eagles is pretty much what is said about Buffalo nickels, &c. Photos of the different coins, their grades, and where one should look for wear do help; but, dozens of pages telling me that MS70 is a perfect coin with no wear or marks, and that MS69 is slightly impaired and MS67 slightly more so really does not explain critical nuances of grading.I would have preferred to see more information re what to expect in the real world of real coins -- what exactly IS the difference between a Philadelphia half eagle that is worn to VF and a Dahlonega half eagle that looks about the same but properly grades AU. Perhaps this is asking too much from a general book; however, this would have been more helpful than endless repetition of the ANA standards mindlessly applied to each type of U.S. mint issue.The Commemorative section also is wanting -- principal commemoratives are listed with a description of where wear typically first appears; however, there are no photos, so the information is not much more than one might find in a Red Book.Finally, there is no mention of Territorial (private) gold, and since I recently came across an Augustus Humboldt eagle, it would have been nice to know what to look for (especially since a private mint well might suffer from the kinds of deficiencies which can lead to weak strikes vis-a-vis worn features).Bottom line here is that one needs to know how, himself, to grade coins, and this book definitely is a step in the right direction, especially for novice collectors and coin "investors" who become the principal marks for overgraded offerings.Those people NEED to buy this book!If, however, you are more specialized and are looking for detailed information beyond application of ANA standards to regular issues, then you probably need to look elsewhere.

I ordered this book and also Grading Coins By Photographs at the same time.They are both published by Whitman and many coin photographs are sharedin both books.Unfortunately, like other reviewers, I find the binding on this book unacceptable.It has a very stiff over--size wire binding and 3 of the tabs on the 1st page werebroken on a brand-new book. I also spent 30 minutes going through the entirebook separating the individual pages that were stuck together.In contrast, the other grading book has similar photographs, but no problemswith the correct-sized binding.Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with the ANA Grading Guide,get the superior Grading Coins By Photographs and you willbe happy.

I kind of thought it would contain photo examples of EVERY grade of the coin. It doesn't - just the major ones, but it covers a wide variety of coins. But for me personally, the online going grading sites provided better, higher resolution color images and THEY included every grade.

Now I have a book that not only gives a description of what the appearance should be for each condition, but it also has photos for visual reference to make grading very easy. Now I have the book to use for reference when someone questions my grading on a coin that they are interested in, that way they know I haven't graded the coin higher than it should be and therefore I am not trying to overcharge them for that coin.

This coin grading book goes a long way in helping the novice coin collector in learning how to best grade coins for him or herself. Won't make you a Pro, but a great help. Good price for this book too.

Excellent grading guide. I've learned quite a lot about grading since buying this book. I use it quite a bit and am still learning. Well worth the price.

The "hidden" spiral binding does not allow pages to lay flat and cause the perforations to tear unless you are extremely careful in turning the pages.
