This book has a lot of new ideas and some very interesting facts. Did you know babies start to laugh around 3 1/2 to 4 months old? This is also when they’re able to be tickled or shortly after that. Different kinds of laughter are discussed. It’s interesting that a deadly plant in Sardinia gave us the word sardonic as in sardonic laughter. Plus I always enjoy reading about lobotomy. That was such a horrible time in medical history. Learn what it teaches us about laughter. Also interesting that quadriplegics cannot cough or laugh. A very interesting book. I highly recommend it

I was enrolled in Laughter & Humor, a course taught at UMBC by Robert R. Provine (author of the book) and I dropped the class after only two-weeks of enrollment. The book is written like a textbook but is structured in a novel format. The chapters are very short, but the amount of detail within one paragraph makes it nearly impossible to know what to study. When discussing the first exam, Provine suggested that we just read and analyze every sentence from Chapters One thru Three. This book is no laughing matter!

It's a REALLY informative book; if you're doin' a paper or someth'n, but if you're try'n to learn to be funny, like I am, it's not really helpful - interesting, but not what I was looking for.

I purchased these cards for my 21 month old son. He doesn't talk as much as I feel he should, so we've started using the flash cards daily.The flash cards are printed on a thick, durable material. The pictures are bright and have the picture and word written below. (* See picture below of several of the cards)There are a lot of cards with basic "starter" words, such as: duck, sock, cow, key, girl, egg, flower, tree, circle, goat, ring, house, turtle, sun, fox, ect.My son gets excited when we do the flashcards and since we've been using them daily, he's starting to be able to pronounce things a little clearer. I would recommend these to anyone with kids ages 1-5! I'm very happy with the purchase of this product.

I bought this for my 15 mo old daughter. They say at this age an younger they can learn up to 5 words a day and since its winter were at the house a lot. So this was a great way to introduce new words and pictures of things ahe has not seen before (trying to avoid TV). She loves them! I pull them out when shes eating in the high chair, a great distraction if your child is fussy at the table btw. Now at 18 months she asks for them by saying 'card' and pointing to where i keep them. I absolutely recommend these and this brand. I like them better then the playskool ones. These are thicker cards and have the word also on the back so you know what card your showing without looking at the front. The playskool ones all have the same picture on the back and where you hold the card in your hand can sometimes cover up the word and the cards are a lot thinner.

My son is 3 years old and has autism. He is non-verbal. I got these cards to work with him and he loves them. He will actually sit down and let me go through the whole stack. He hasn't repeated any words yet but he can point to certain ones if I ask "where's the duck..." . I am confident he will be speaking soon though! :)

This is a great set, however, spend a couple of extra dollars and get the Grade PK-3 Learning Flash Cards set. You get the same exact words in that set as you do in this set and then much much more. I ended up giving this set to my niece because there was no point in me having two of the same sets.

A friend recommended these Brighter Cards. I ordered several different card sets (shapes, letters, numbers, words, etc) and have been working them with my 2 year old. He likes the cards and the colors/ pictures on them. He also enjoys putting each card back in the box after we're done with it.All in all I think these are a good learning tool. And I love the low price!!!!My only complaint is that the cards are a bit on the thin side.....and when considering that toddlers will be handeling them, they should be thicker to ensure durability and longevity.

Clear animated images, nice big BOLD writing. Love the colors. My 1 year 8 month year old is picking it up real well.

One side of the flash card has the picture and word (as shown on the box) and the other side has just the word. My daughter will be 2 in 2 months and she really loves these. She partially just loves making a mess with the cards, but she also does really well with identifying the side that has the word and picture. I would say most of the words are 6 letters or less (most of them being 4 letter words). These are a great tool for younger kids like my toddler and would also be beneficial as you prepare your child for pre-k or kindergarten sight words.

Read some complaints about how these were not very sturdy but you're using them to work with your toddler you're not really handing them over to be chewed on by an infant. I think they are the perfect thickness, much like a standard playing card but much larger. They do bend when an excited toddler grabs them as they get them right, but we just flatten them back out and they are still very usable.The pictures only show you one side with the image and the word but on the back is just the words with no pictures so you can use that side as your child actually learns to associate the word with the image.
